Bents Fort, La Junta Colorado

Today we went to Bents Fort. It was fascinating. Its a completely restored old fort with people dressed in costume. We got back to the RV early and read and napped. Too hot to do much of anything else. Tomorrow we head out for home.

Koshare Indian Museum

We got to La Junta, Colorado yesterday. The pool was actually warm enough to go swimming. Then it clouded up and we got a huge thunder storm with lots of wind and rain and lightening all around us and it seemed to last for a loooooong time.

Today we drove into La Junta and went to the Koshare Indian Museum. They had lots of interesting stuff, lots of pottery and beautiful bead work. No photos allowed. Went back to the RV to read and nap then for a swim and BBQ'd steaks.

Gallup and Santa Fe

We're now in Santa Fe. Drove into old Santa Fe today and went to the Loretto Chapel with the fascinating staircase that no one knows exactly how it was built. Santa Fe is really touristy and expensive. We're heading out tomorrow to La Junta Colorado. We didn't get many pictures of the Indian dancing - too dark and my camera isn't good enough. We had rain and thunder almost every day in Gallup.

The Catwalk - Wow!

We left Silver City Tuesday and drove about 65 miles to Glenwood. Found a little RV park there. Unhooked and drove to the Catwalk in Whitewater Canyon. Its a long metal walkway over Whitewater Creek and through the canyon. Its awesome but because I don't like heights, scared the hell out of me. Instead of using some solid material for the walkway they've used metal grating so you can see ALL the way down below you. We left the next morning for Gallup. Our host at the RV park gave us a different route to take, small roads but all paved the no traffic. Only a few places with those mountain dropoffs that I love so much. Right now we're sitting in an internet cafe in Gallup - no internet at Red Rock.

Wolf Sanctuary

Didn't do anything yesterday, just loafed around, did laundry and read and napped all day.

Today we went to Wolfsong, the wolf sanctuary. Dee Dee has a lot of wolves and wolf hybrids, all of them rescues. You can go inside the pens and pet all of them. So much for the big, bad wolf - they weren't in the least interested in eating these two old grannies. Got back to the RV just in time for a huge thunder storm and lots of rain. Didn't do us any good to leave Texas to get away from the rain.

Gila Cliff Dwellings

We drove to the cliff dwellings today. The road was pretty curvy with lots of water running across the road at various places. It kept sprinkling so it was cool but kind of humid. We stopped to take a picture of a beautiful water fall. On the way home there was water running across the road that was pretty deep and fast so we turned around and took Hwy 15 which everyone said was really scary to drive. Actually it was better that the road we took to get there. Lots of curves and several U-turns but dry. Stopped in Pinos Altos, a cute little old town. We had some really great pie and brownie and went through their little museum. Got back to the RV about 6pm, pooped but happy.

Silver City, New Mexico

More rain last night. Today we drove into Silver City and had coffee at the Bad Ass Bakery. Walked through the old downtown area then decided to drive to Tyrone, the ghost town. Got to Tyrone and the only thing there was the post office and they didn't know anything about a ghost town, only the mine. We drove to the mine and the security guard told us the ghost town had been leveled in the 1970's. So the we just drove on out Hwy 180 - beautiful country - rolling hills. Found a little RV park we can stay in to go see the Cat walk and they lady there told us about another ghost town called Mogollon.

Silver City New Mexico

Well, we're in Silver City, New Mexico. Spent last night in Van Horn, Texas. We've hit quite a bit of rain and a real gully-washer as we were trying to check into the RV park. Tomorrow we go to Silver City the old downtown area. Will post pictures if there's anything interesting. Am getting used to towing the Saturn.
